Did you know that there are well over 100 different cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are the natural compounds found in the cannabis plant. They actually work with the human body in a very special way. They attach to our human endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate psychological and physical processes such as mood, appetite, health, and more. If this system gets disrupted it can cause many issues in the human body. So, that’s where cannabinoids come in, aiding the body, and this system, in unique ways. There are several important cannabinoids you should know.

THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC is a main, mind-altering compound found in the cannabis plant. It’s the chemical behind all of marijuana’s psychological effects. That said, THC can also act as a painkiller and has antioxidant properties. Thirty-three US states have made the medical use of THC legal. Other states allow some THC to pass through in hemp-derived products, as long as it’s unde 0.03 percent. THC is quite easy to extract. There are many different techniques, allowing for a range of purity margins.

CBD

Cannabidiol  or CBD is the second most common cannabinoid found in the flower of the hemp plant. It holds many suspected medicinal capabilities. While CBD will not make the user high, it may help people with anxiety. It also has many potential anti-inflammatory properties. These may help address a variety of issues, including headaches. Hemp-derived CBD is legal in most states, under certain conditions and regulations, including:

  • CBD must have less than 0.3 percent THC content. Crops get tested before harvesting to ensure the hemp is within the legal limit. Anything above must get destroyed.
  • CBD must come from hemp, not marijuana. After drying the hemp, you can extract CBD oil from the flower.

CBG

Cannabigerol or CBG was a lesser known cannabinoid until recently. It’s gaining in popularity.  While it takes more work to extract, CBG may offer tremendous health benefits. CBG is typically found early on in a cannabis plant’s life. It’s even known as the parent to many other big cannabinoids. CBG has many of the same health benefits of CBD and is legal in most places so long as it has small amounts of THC. CBG extraction takes place the same way as most other cannabinoids. The hemp gets processed and then dissolved into ethanol before leaving behind CBG.

CBC

Cannabichromene or CBC is the second most plentiful cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis research puts CBC in a different category than most other cannabinoids. It shows very auspicious benefits. CBC’s medicinal abilities can get enhanced when mixed with other cannabinoids, such as CBD or THC, due to the entourage effect. CBC may aid in pain and lessen inflammation. It even has potential to stunt cell growth in cancer cells. Much like the rest of the cannabinoids on this list, the legality of CBC depends on the state you live in and the quantity of THC in the plant. Extraction takes place using the same processes as with other cannabinoids such as CBD, CBC, and more.

CBN

Cannabinol or CBN is a non-psychotropic cannabinoid. It resides in the hemp plant in very small amounts. Large quantities of CBN are a bit more challenging to extract, which makes CBN a bit more expensive. Recently, many genetically-modified strains have become available to increase the amount of CBN available after extraction. Outside of working as a possible sleep aid, CBN has promise for use with many health issues.

D8

Delta 8 THC or D8 is one of the more confusing cannabinoids. D8 can be quite hard to find on the market as it often only makes up less than one percent of a hemp plant. D8 shows an overwhelming amount of medicinal potential. It may help to restore appetite, aid in pain relief, and serve as a potential cancer treatment. D8 does not provide the same high as THC, but rather can give you a weightless sensation. D8 is legal in most states but not all. Like the other cannabinoids on this list, it must have less than 0.3 percent THC to be legal.
