In Riley’s video about cannabis use and exercising, she shares a little known fact. Cannabis is actually banned from the World Anti-Doping Agency because of its potential to improve performance, not inhibit it. This comes as a shock because of the stereotype of lazy and unmotivated that a lot of cannabis users get grouped into.
Benefits of Cannabis Use While Exercising
Using cannabis either before or after a workout can benefit you. This is because cannabis dilates your blood vessels. Although, this may not be the case if you are prone to passing out or have regular fainting spells. The National Center for Health Statistics were able to find some correlations between cannabis and metabolic health. People who use cannabis have lower fasting insulin levels, smaller waist sizes, and a less prevalent occurrence of type 2 diabetes.
At the end of the video, Riley asks her viewers to conduct a little experiment. She challenged cannabis users who also work out frequently to share which of the following categories cannabis improves for them: performance, motivation, enjoyment, and recovery. Results showed that many people experience a better mind-body connection while using cannabis and exercising. A lot of basketball players who watch Riley’s video also said using cannabis significantly improves their game!
Using 3,000 responses, Riley concluded that 14% of people found improvements in performance, 15% in motivation, 19% in enjoyment, 18% in recovery, 33% in all four categories, and only 1% who found no improvement in any category.
