Trail mix. Beef jerky. Protein powder. What do all these food products have in common? They’re now all sold with several variants, including CBD Gummies. The trend of CBD edibles hasn’t shown signs of slowing down either (see Carl’s Junior’s CBD Burger.)
One of the most common forms of CBD edibles being legally sold in stores across the nation is the CBD gummy. They come in many shapes and flavors: grape bears, fruit punch worms, and I would be remiss to leave out CBD froggies.
With the explosion of CBD products, many of which are not cheap, it makes sense to ask: Are edibles the best way to ingest CBD?
The benefits of CBD
No matter how you ingest CBD, studies have demonstrated this cannabinoid may have multiple health benefits. CBD may relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression, which is the primary reason many consume it. Other potential benefits of CBD include the ability to reduce pain and inflammation, and lower the risk of blood pressure and obesity. The full list of potential health benefits is too long to delve into here.
It is worth noting that while there is plenty of anecdotal evidence backing the effectiveness of CBD edibles, testing is still in its infancy. CBD edibles do not have FDA approval.
CBD gummies vs CBD oil
The two most common ways of ingesting CBD right now are through products one eats or drinks and oils. You can find CBD oil in tinctures and vape cartridges most readily.
The explosive popularity of CBD edibles may be due to the fact that marijuana edibles have enjoyed popularity, on the sly, for decades. However, THC, the compound in marijuana that gets you high, works differently than CBD.
When the body consumes any substance, it goes to work breaking it down via digestion. The same happens with CBD and THC edibles. However, the form you ingest it in matters. Studies show that only 4-20 percent of CBD gets absorbed into the bloodstream when consumed in edible form, which is low compared to the 34-56 percent range absorbed when vaping CBD oil.
So, why use CBD gummies?
Despite this, there are still reasons edibles may be more appealing than other forms of CBD. For one, the effects do last longer. While it is somewhat unclear why this is the case, CBD gummies will have longer lasting effects than CBD you vape or apply sublingually with a tincture.
CBD products like gummies are also more appealing to those who do not vape or smoke. Many find the process of consuming heated vapor harsh on the lungs, and there is a social stigma applied to the actions of vaping and smoking as well.
To contrast, CBD gummies are a discreet way to take CBD. You can easily carry them with you for a quick snack in any setting.
Buying CBD products
No matter the CBD product, always check to make sure you’re getting broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD, not CBD isolate. Broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD products make use of the entourage effect and contain other compounds from the hemp plant that can facilitate and may even enhance the effects of CBD without containing more than 0.3 percent THC.
For a superior CBD gummy, check out Arbor Vita8’s Broad-Spectrum Sour Gummies. This CBD infused product contains no artificial flavors or colors. It’s also dairy-free, gluten-free, and soy-free. Each gummy contains 25 mg of broad-spectrum CBD in addition to vitamins and minerals that help boost the immune system.
