What is hemp biomass?

Although our industry commonly refers to the entire dried plant matter (including flowers and seeds) as “hemp biomass,” this framing is not quite accurate. The correct definition includes partial stems, stalks, leaves, and flowers. Simply put, it’s the plant matter that remains once flowers are removed. Conventional farmers often viewed this biomass as a waste product, but new extraction technologies and better public education about hemp’s healing qualities have changed that conversation. It’s changed so much, in fact, that farmers are now facing a very real shortage of qualified processors who can dry and extract industrial volumes of biomass. With the capability to dry up to 20,000 wet pounds per hour and extract up to 5,000 pounds a day, Arbor Vita8 is leading the charge to catch up to this unprecedented demand.

What Hemp Biomass Services Do We Provide?

At Arbor Vita8, we help our partner farmers cultivate and process high-quality, high-CBD/CBG hemp biomass for oil extraction. This type of hemp biomass is more expensive than the fibrous biomass used in textile and pellet manufacturing. From seed to sale, there’s quite a few steps where we can assist our partner farmers. That includes:

1. Harvest Assistance: Harvesting hemp biomass is a delicate and time-sensitive process. From combining to baling to transportation, our expert harvest team will handle every step with care.

2. Biomass Processing (Drying & Milling): Before oil can be extracted, your hemp must be properly milled and then dried into a more stable form. With drying rates of up to 20,000 wet pounds per hour, very few processors can match our capability and capacity for industrial operations. We can also safely store your baled biomass in our 75,000-sq-ft facility while you wait for processing or extraction.

3. Biomass Extraction: Once your hemp has been processed into a stable, dry form, we can extract crude oil at a rate of 5,000 pounds per day. We also have the capability to further refine crude oil into full-spectrum and broad-spectrum distillates – including high-demand T-free distillate.
