Peripheral Neuropathy can have a significant impact on those forced to contend with it. As a 2020 study noted, “therapies from the current treatment algorithm often fail to deliver adequate symptom relief.” These can also come in the form of intense pain in limbs below the waste.
The potential benefits of CBD are often touted, but what’s its actual value in this context? The mentioned study seeks to determine just that. As such, we felt it was only right to make it the focus of the latest installment in our Journal Review Series!
The Experiment’s Methods
Almost 30 patients with peripheral neuropathy contributed to the study. The parameters of the experiment were as follow:
- Almost half received a topical cannabidiol oil applied to the lower limbs “containing 250 mg CBD/3 fl. oz.”
- The rest got a placebo for the first month, then, joining the treated group after.
- Biweekly use of “The Neuropathic Pain Scale (NPS) to assess” updates.
By the close of the study, “there was a statistically significant reduction in” a range of symptoms. It’s also important to note that none of the participants noted any negative reaction to the oil’s application.
