Which Cannabinoid is Good For That?

Table of 6 different cannabinoids and their respective chemical diagrams

There are at least 113 different cannabinoids within the Cannabis plant. You most often only hear about a few of them, maybe six percent overall. These are the ones most in demand and most often used in both recreational and medicinal capacities.

It’s confusing, with so many possible cannabinoids, to know which one works best for what. While nothing has been substantiated by the FDA, consumers are finding certain cannabinoids useful in their everyday lives for a variety of purposes. Some, you may not have even considered.

CBD’s medicinal side

Perhaps the most well-known cannabinoid, CBD, was first to hit the market in a big way once hemp became legal in the U.S. Consumers find it can help with anxiety and stress, while still keeping your head clear. Some users even find it helps with inflammation. Other possibilities, based on current studies and consumer feedback, include using CBD to treat:

  • Epilepsy
  • Nausea
  • Cancer treatment side effects
  • Chronic arthritis

CBG for discomfort

While CBG has hit the market primarily as a dietary supplement, it has potential in areas most associated with discomfort. Some consumers are finding it helps to reduce the unpleasantness of:

  • Nausea
  • Pain
  • Inflammation

The cannabinoid may even pose a medicinal use for those with IBS. It may also present similar effects as CBD when it comes to relieving anxiety.

CBC and your skin

Because CBC may have anti-inflammatory effects, users have noticed its positive effect on acne. This annoying skin issue is actually caused when your sebaceous glands are overactive, producing higher amounts of lipids, which makes your skin oily. Using an anti-inflammatory suppresses the lipid production, leading some consumers to give CBC a try for this specific skin condition. The cannabinoid doesn’t stop there though with the potential to:

  • Support bone health
  • Work as an antidepressant

It’s also noted that CBC does its best work when combined with other cannabinoids. Scientists call this the entourage effect. It occurs where two or more cannabinoids coming together enhance the benefits of each otherl.

Your appetite on CBN

Most of us know what happens when you use THC — the munchies. You get so hungry that you don’t even notice what you’re eating. Consumers who use CBN are noticing the cannabinoid helps stimulate their appetite without having to feel high. They’re able to reduce a lack of hunger in a more controlled and legal way.

The other major use for CBN, based on user feedback, is as a sleep aid. A relatively new cannabinoid on the market, additional potential for CBN is still undergoing extensive research.

The THC family

While still just scratching the surface of all the cannabinoids that come from hemp, it’s worth a quick mention to include a few compounds within the THC family. To keep cannabis within the legal hemp classification, you won’t find more than 0.3% THC within any product.

Even though these compounds are still illegal in many states, the cannabinoids do have positive uses including:

  • THC may work as an anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, sleep aid, and appetite stimulant
  • THCA may work as an anti-epileptic and analgesic
  • THCV may work as an appetite stimulant and anti-epileptic

There are also the legal, non-psychoactive forms of THC, known as Delta-8 and Delta-10. These are just coming into their own from a manufacturing standpoint, but will eventually be more visible on store shelves. Potential benefits are still under exploration, but so far, consumers are noticing that using Delta-8 provides many of the same benefits as using THC, without having to feel ‘high’ to have the experience. Delta-10 may also provide similar effects as Delta-8. It’s still so new, scientists are only guessing at its impact on consumers, but it’s likely it may help you feel more relaxed and focused, again without the ‘high’ associated with THC.
